Historical Trends by the Decade

The incredible Santana has discovered one of the greatest sites I've ever seen. You can select a decade and there are lists of important events, who is "in", who died, the "bad guys", entertainment, music, literature, art, slang, and fashion and beauty. This site is an excellent place to start your research or enhance your diary or journal. So, so cool! I love it!

Facebook Privacy

Hey friends,

I was stumbling around the Internet over the weekend and spotted this helpful article.  I have explained to many of you about facebook and facebook privacy settings.  I know that most of you are currently using facebook.  There are loads of great things abou facebook, but the privacy settings that are standard are not so great.  Automatically, when you join up, you have very little privacy.  Almost anyone can see almost anything that you put up onto facebook, including pictures that other people post of you.  A lot of people have gotten in trouble for things they have posted themselves or that others have posted about them.  You can keep yourself safer.

There are 10 tips included in this article to help you manage your privacy settings better.  Check out this article to help you out with your own privacy on facebook, the writer tells you step-by-step how to increase your privacy.

Here is a super short list of tips (most of them are the same as the ones in the other article), The Purple 'Puter Lady talks about teaching her students about facebook privacy.

Do you use facebook?  Why do you like using it?  What are some problems you've had with the privacy settings?  Leave a comment here.

Student Sample

Hey folks,

I just wanted to quickly direct your attention to Emily's blog. She has completed Assignment #7 in a very thorough manner. She did an excellent job. I suggest you look at it if you are feeling stuck. She followed most instructions very well.

Two suggestions I've given her are:
-Make sure all three influential Canadians are Canadians
-Write your biography in the third person, not the first person (for example: "Emily cured cancer" rather than "I cured cancer).

Love it. Keep on blogging in the free world.

Comments: A Quick Reminder

Those of you with funky templates,

Make sure that people can comment on your blogs! I just tried to comment on Amit's blog and was unable to! Egads! Go to Settings-->Comments-->Show comments in pop-up window

Also, make sure that people do not need to type in a scrambled word. For that, go to Settings--->Comments-->Show word verification for comments-->"No"

Have a friend comment on your blog so that you know comments work. The Tech Experts are pro at this if you still need extra help.

***Note to Tale - try following these directions or ask a Tech Expert for help - I'll be back tomorrow if this doesn't work!***

Tech Experts and Blogger Templates - Important Information

Hello puppies,

I see that many of you have taken Stan's advice and used funky templates. Once you've applied your new template, you will have to re-add any gadgets or widgets you added to your old template (blogger will warn you of this when you download your new template). If you don't know how to do that, talk to one of our Tech Experts: Stan, Jordie, Colton, Sara, Jaspreet, or Philip and they can help you. I will continue to add to a list of Tech Experts on the right hand side of my blog as students get better and better. If you want to be added as a Tech Expert and help out your schoolmates, just comment on this message! You can always leave questions for me in the comment field on posts, or you can visit the Tech Experts blogs (or talk to them at school).

Also, once you have a new template, ask a friend to come to your blog and try to leave a comment. If they cannot, go into your Settings and make sure that the Comment option is activated.

E7B - Some Shout Outs

Way to go, E7B!

Thank you to the wonderful helpers in this magnificent class! I see that Aynalem is helping Mariam K because the two of them had the same problem with people leaving comments. I see that Genny and Michelle are helping one another. Chelsea is helping Ridge set up his account. James has provided support to many of his classmates. Youssef H is helping Mohamed.

I'm so proud of you little monkeys!

Some Ways to Make Your Assignments EVEN Better

Hello friends -

I've been reading over your wonderful assignments and for the most part, I'm totally impressed. You are putting a lot of thought into the things that you are writing. You are making wonderful observations and making connections.

I have noticed a couple of things that most of you can do to make your posts even better for your readers. Remember that your readers can arrive at your site from anywhere on the Internet. Your peers and I will obviously be reading your blogs, but other people can find them as well. If someone who is not taking this course discovers your blog, you want to make sure that they can understand what you are talking about.

Remember to introduce your assignments when you make a post. If you suddenly start writing about the cold with no introduction, readers will be confused. Another way that you can make things even clearer for your readers is to introduce the assignment and link back to my blog with the assignment on it.

If you do those few simple things, your posts can become even more effective.

Keep up the tremendous work.

PS - Pleaze spel cheque.
